We set off towards Gobustan, located 70 km south of Baku, which is Azerbaijan's richest region in terms of archaeological artefacts and is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Gobustan, situated near the Caspian Sea along the old Shirvan road, is also referred to as an open-air museum. This site provides important information about prehistoric and Medieval community life, hunting, animals and vegetation, with its carved rocks and painted stones recognised worldwide. The Gobustan Mud Volcanoes are located southwest of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, within Gobustan National Park and form one of the largest mud volcano fields in the world. This natural wonder holds great geological and touristic significance. Approximately 40% of the world's mud volcanoes are found in Azerbaijan, and the most famous ones are in the Gobustan region.
