At Gobustan National Park, figures of animals, hunters and boats carved into rock surfaces speak of life thousands of years ago. Moving between the stones, it is easy to marvel at how the images have lasted in the open air. It is a quiet walk through a wide, open landscape.
In autumn and winter the wind is cool, so dress in layers. Choose sturdy shoes. Do not touch the rock: the carvings are fragile and need protecting.
