About this experience
Near Baku, the Ateshgah is known for an altar in the middle of its stone-walled courtyard. It is remembered as a place of worship for Zoroastrians and fire-revering communities who came to the region. The cells, the courtyard and the flame at the centre create a plain but striking atmosphere.
In autumn and winter the wind is cool in the courtyard, so dress warmly. Reading the displays in the cells enriches the visit. Be quiet and respectful, and comfortable shoes are enough.
