Statue of Liberty ferry ride to Liberty Island

The ferry leaves the quay at the tip of Manhattan and crosses the harbour toward Liberty Island. As it nears, the scale of the Statue of Liberty becomes clear: the torch, the crown and the green-patinated copper look larger than in photographs. Passengers on deck also try to catch the skyline falling away behind.

It is windy on the outer deck, so bring a thin jacket. The skyline makes two different pictures on the way in and on the way out, so keep your camera ready. Try going up on deck both ways.
