Hilton Takayama Resort

I had such a wonderful time staying at this hotel. The room was large and beautiful. The view was amazing! They even give you a little guide so you can use to determine what mountain you're looking at. I rented a private onsen and it was so relaxing. All ReFa products btw. The food at the restaurant was also great. Hida beef is top tier. The only thing you should note is that this hotel is no where near anything else and that can be tough. They have a shuttle, but it runs once an hour. Of course taxis are available. It's just an adjustment coming from larger cities.

After a long day of sightseeing on a Gate 1 tour, we finally got to our hotel at around 4-4:30 PM. The hotel is clean, rooms are beautiful BUT, there is no amenity where a diabetic can get something substantial for low sugar in the middle of the night. So, I nicely asked the restaurant personnel about getting a banana or blueberries or anything other than bread, cookies, or candy to take up to my room. I was told, no, it’s against their rules to allow food to leave the restaurant. I couldn’t believe it. They were willing to risk a persons’ life over a rule. I’m sorry, but an allowance should have been made for a person with a medical issue. I also spoke to my tour guide about it. He asked the restaurant staff about it and was told the same thing. He offered me no solutions. Thankfully, there were other people on my tour with diabetes who immediately offered to assist. I think that the restaurant’s lack of consideration should be noted and people should take their business to other resorts that don’t risk people’s lives over a rule.

Wow!! What a absolutely fantastic Hotel (the word is that it is being considered by the Hyatt Hotel network to be acquired). The first plus is the large size of the rooms - very rare in Japan. The second plus is the morning breakfast "feast". And the third plus is the Onsens (hot bath areas). Let me give some context though - the Hotel is "relatively speaking" isolated (by some 10 minutes driving or 30 minutes walking) from the main City area around the Takayama Station - this is less of an issue as the Hotel provides an hourly Shuttle-bus service to the City centre. The Hotel building comprises 2 structures alongside each other and linked only at the ground/first floor and 2nd floors. In Winter it is surrounded by snow and in Summer there is a tennis court. All year round there are mountain views.
