Sunrise geothermal steam watching at El Tatio Geysers
San Pedro de Atacama · Chile
About this experience
In the Atacama Desert, the El Tatio Geysers send columns of steam skyward at sunrise. Water boiling in the cold air and the rising steam draw a red-orange picture in low light. Watched at high altitude, the scene fades slowly as the sun warms the air.
It is very cold before sunrise, so bring a thick coat, gloves and a hat. Move slowly to adjust to the altitude and drink plenty of water.
