Hike the lava fields of the active volcano at Pacaya Volcano
Antigua · Guatemala
About this experience
Pacaya is an active volcano in Guatemala. The trail leaves the pine forest and reaches dark lava fields, where you walk on black, hard and cracked ground. It is a high hike and a direct look at volcanic terrain. The climb is physically demanding but rewarded with scenery.
The way includes a climb, loose stone and a long walk. Sturdy closed hiking shoes, a windproof, gloves and plenty of water are a must. Keep a steady pace, as the altitude is high. Ground on the lava field is sharp and may have hot spots, so stay on the route your guide shows.
