Laguna Colorada flamingo watching across the crimson lagoon
Uyuni · Bolivia
About this experience
High on the Andean plateau, flamingos feed in the shallow water of a lagoon tinted red by minerals. The species seen here is James's flamingo. Watching from a distance with binoculars as the birds walk slowly and sift the water reveals a delicate side of this harsh landscape.
The altitude is very high and the air cold and windy. Dress in layers and bring gloves and a hat. Stay quiet and keep your distance so the birds are not disturbed. Binoculars and a camera with a good zoom pay off.
