The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - Handwritten Collection

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon, and it was the first stop of our trip to Indonesia. Our suite was beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable. The restaurant was excellent, offering a wide variety of dishes, from local specialties to Western options, as well as simple meals for guests who prefer less spicy food (such as grilled fish). The live gamelan music made our dinner experience even more magical and created a truly special atmosphere. Dina and Ayung took exceptional care of us throughout our stay, and the entire staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and helpful. They made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Thank you for everything and for making the beginning of our honeymoon so memorable. We hope to come back one day!

The Phoenix Hotel is a sanctuary in Yogyakarta's city centre. The grounds are gorgeous and atmospheric with the hotel's heritage charm evident throughout. The location is perfectly central, making it incredibly easy to get a Grab anywhere in the city. The breakfast experience was delightful, complete with live gamelan music that set a wonderful tone for the day. The restaurant serves excellent food, but what truly stands out is the staff. They are exceptionally attentive and genuinely invested in your comfort. As a fussy traveller, I appreciated how thoughtfully they worked with me to ensure my accommodation was exactly right. Their dedication to making sure I was completely satisfied was appreciated, they truly went above and beyond. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Yogyakarta.

We spent seven nights at the Phoenix Hotel and enjoyed ourselves with the high point being the service. The hotel has a charm and architecture based on the original Dutch design. The restaurant had a good selection of Indonesian and western fare for breakfast with an extensive menu for lunch/dinner as well. The pool is attractive and nice place to relax from the heat of the day and we also used the Spa facilities as well. Good value. The room (junior suite) was nice with ample space and pleasant decoration and yet certain aspects such as the couch were tired and needing replacement and the bathroom would benefit from a review of sink drainage and hand washer. Having said that, we very much enjoyed our stay which was good value with great service and very good location - evenwalked to Jalan Malioboro. On the service side, we would like to mention Arnold, Redit, Leo, Ayunda, Teger and Ruge as restaurant team (also Bayu and Sela), Lala - laundry service and Miftah at the front desk. All were helpful and service oriented.
