Ferry cruise to the floating torii gate on Miyajima Island
Hiroshima · Japan
About this experience
A short ferry ride to Miyajima Island brings you close to the red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine rising from the sea. Depending on the tide, the gate appears to float on the water, or you can walk toward it across the exposed shore. The calm of the island makes it an ideal place to pause in front of the gate for a few minutes.
The ferry deck can be windy, so bring a thin jacket. The view changes with the tide, so the look you expect is not guaranteed. Comfortable walking shoes help on the island.
