MBD Travel Hiroshima Guide
More than a list of sights: a practical guide to planning the order of your trip, choosing where to stay and adapting the plan to the season.
Hiroshima Guide 2026
Hiroshima is a city in western Honshu, Japan, on the Seto Inland Sea. Rebuilt after the atomic bombing of 1945, it is known today for its message of peace and is an important stop on Japan itineraries.
What to see in Hiroshima
- The Peace Memorial Park: a riverside park created in memory of the bombing.
- The Atomic Bomb Dome: the ruined building listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- The Peace Memorial Museum: a museum that tells the story through documents and objects.
- Hiroshima Castle: a rebuilt castle in the middle of the city.
When to go
July and August average a high of 30 to 31 degrees with high humidity, and August is the wettest month with 347 millimetres. January ranges from 9 to 1 degree. April, May, October and November are more comfortable for sightseeing.
Getting there from Turkey
In MBD's Japan tours, Hiroshima is a day reached by Shinkansen ("Bullet train to Hiroshima", "Hiroshima's peace history"). The tours run from 7 to 25 nights and leave from Istanbul. Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Asiana are listed. There are also long programmes that combine Japan and Korea. Dates and prices are on the tour page.
Who it suits
People interested in history and peace, and those who want to complete the classic Japan route of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. It is an emotionally heavy stop, and the museum can be hard for some visitors.
