Camel safari across the Karakorum steppe
Ulaanbaatar · Mongolia
About this experience
A slow camel safari across the steppe near Karakorum makes a walk in which nothing is visible but grassland and sky. The camels move at a heavy pace and riders give in to the swaying rhythm. Between wind, horizon and silence, the Central Asian steppe makes itself felt.
Mounting, dismounting and a long time in the saddle can tire you; if you have back pain or balance concerns, check beforehand. Bring long trousers, closed shoes, a hat and sunscreen. The weather changes fast on the steppe, so carry a windbreaker. The safari runs in spring, summer and autumn.
