Hotel El Mesón del Marqués

Stayed here for one night while visiting Valladolid. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the main square and many restaurants. The room was clean and the staff were generally polite. However, I felt the hotel was overpriced for what it offered. The room was quite small, the air conditioning struggled to keep the room cool, and the soundproofing was poor. Because of the central location, there was noticeable street noise at night. My biggest disappointment was the communication regarding late check-out. We asked a day in advance whether a late check-out would be possible, but the response from the staff was very vague and did not explain any fees or limitations. The next day, when we realized we could not return on time, we were told we would need to pay for an additional half-day rate and could only stay until 3:00 PM. Considering the lack of clear information beforehand, this felt unreasonable and frustrating. Unfortunately, despite the convenient location, I would not choose to stay here again due to the poor value for money and disappointing handling of the late check-out request.

First, this hotel is perfectly situated. Right on the main square you can walk any direction and find wonderful opportunity. The city is fantastic and safe to explore! Our room was comfortable. Bathroom was not air conditioned so each trip was a bit of a sauna experience but the sleeping area was nice and cool! We were just off the pool which came with pros and cons. Pros - quick and easy walk to car, pool, restaurant and street Cons - not very private, loud at times Service This hotel is lacking in some of the service offerings. It took us 2 days to get an extra pillow. They said they were coming twice and didn’t. Left a $5usd tip for the housekeeping staff and received the pillow. Service at the pool bar was subpar. It took us 25 minutes to get two beers yesterday. But the queso fundido was unreal!! Breakfast was soooooo good!! We didn’t have dinner so we cannot comment.

Will not return to this hotel and will not recommend this to anyone I know coming to Valladolid. Positives were that during our stay the staff was very friendly, the attached restaurant had some great food, and the location is great. However, despite receiving verbal confirmation of the length of our stay at check-in (with the correct dates verified), we were forced to find a new hotel on our last day at Valladolid because they said we had booked one day less than we actually had. In order to stay, we were told we needed to change rooms and pay a higher rate for the final night as the room prices had gone up. While this could have been human error on the hotel's part, it is also incredibly suspicious that we had gotten confirmation from staff on check-in for the correct number of nights and yet ended up being forced to either pay more or vacate a day early. Whether it was human error or an attempt to get us to pay more for the last night is ultimately irrelevant. It was terrible service on the part of the hotel and there appear to be plenty of other options near the square that won't make this mistake. I'd recommend going with one of those instead.
