ANA Crowne Plaza Sapporo

We had a great stay at the ANA Crowne Plaza Sapporo. My IHG Diamond status was recognized extremely well, and the service throughout our stay was excellent. Breakfast was a particular highlight, with an amazing selection of both Japanese and Western options. The Japanese curry, sushi specialties and freshly prepared omelets were especially good. There was enough variety to make breakfast feel genuinely special. Our room had been recently renovated and was smartly and thoughtfully finished. Although the reception area felt slightly dated, nothing about the hotel seemed run-down; everything was clean, well maintained and kept to a high standard. We were travelling with a campervan, and the reception team went above and beyond to accommodate us. They found a special place for it on the hotel property and located a staff member who spoke excellent English to help us maneuver the vehicle safely into the space. That level of assistance was greatly appreciated. Overall, this was a wonderful stay—and even more impressive considering the very reasonable price we paid. Excellent service, a superb breakfast and outstanding value. We would happily stay again.

This hotel is less than 10 mins walk from Sapporo JR Station North entrance and is close to many facilities such as convenient stores, department stores and restaurants. The hotel is very comfortable despite it is showing its age. It has a car park in the basement but do note there is a 1.9M height restriction so if your rental is taller, there is outdoor parking before the hotel on the same block. Breakfast is served from 2 restaurants - one buffet and one Japanese seafood set with seasonal offerings. Although the buffet is the same every day, the sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs and omelettes are very tasty along with an arsenal of jams and spreads for your toasts. PS. I do recommend that you sign up for the IHG membership beforehand because they have an express check-in line at the reception as well as a 1400 check out time (normal time is 1100).

As a IHG Diamond Ambassador member, I have just completed our first stay in the Crowne Plaza Sapporo. While I was recognised as a Diamond member during check-in, the allocated room upgrade that was provided (as part of my membership level) was prefunctory: A higher floor room with the same size and layout as the room which I have booked, as confirmed with the check-in staff. The room size is extremely small, and with two persons in the same booking, there is simply no space for both luggages to be opened, and we had to take turns moving in the small cabin-like room. Compared to the Crowne Plaza Kushiro where we had arrived from, that hotel may not have the bells and whistles of the Sapporo property, but the Diamond treatment we have received was well above our expectations with a larger room that what was booked originally. In Crowne Plaza Sapporo, receiving an “upgrade” to a higher room floor with the same layout as the one i have booked smells of stinginess of a hotel property. There are good points however: The hardware and service of this hotel is expected from a Crowne Plaza with renovated rooms and decor, and good housekeeping standards. Breakfast, as in Japan generally, is great with good quality and variety. Overall, we ended up being amused with the grandiosely announced Diamond room upgrade of being in a higher floor. Taking into consideration of the high price this Sapporo hotel is charging during our stay, we feel that this stay was not of good value.
