Tunisia and Ancient Cities Tour

We meet 3 hours before departure in front of the Türk Hava Yolları counter at the international departures terminal of Istanbul Airport. After completing baggage, ticket and passport procedures, we depart for Tunis at 08.55 on Türk Hava Yolları flight TK661. We arrive in Tunis at 10.00 local time and begin our city tour in the vehicle waiting for us at the airport. Sights on the tour include Habib Bourguiba Boulevard, known as the Champs Elsysees Boulevard of Tunis, Independence Square, the city’s landmark Clock Tower, and St. Vincent de Paul Cathedral, the largest surviving building from Tunis’s colonial period. After the tour, we transfer to our hotel in the Hammamet area for free time. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel in the Hammamet area.

After breakfast at the hotel, we join the Historical Traces of Tunisia (Tunis & Carthage & Sidi Bou Said & Bardo Museum) tour. Our first stop is Tunis, the country’s capital and its political, commercial and cultural centre. Here, we see how modern and old Tunis coexist in the cityscape. We then head to Carthage, founded by the Phoenicians, once one of the Roman Empire’s centres in Africa and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a lunch break here, we continue to Sidi Bou Said. In this town known for its cobbled streets and blue and white houses, we stop for photos overlooking the Mediterranean. The final stop on our tour is the Bardo Museum, one of the most important museums in the Mediterranean region. The museum houses an extensive collection of marble works depicting Roman gods and emperors, as well as the world’s largest collection of Roman mosaics. After the tour, we transfer to our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel in the Hammamet area.

After breakfast at the hotel, we join the Ancient Cities (Kairouan & El Djem & Sousse) tour. Our first stop is the holy city of Kairouan, which ranks fourth as a place of pilgrimage in Islam after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. The city is home to the Great Mosque, considered one of the region’s important examples of Islamic architecture. We then head to El Djem to see the ruins of North Africa’s largest colosseum. During the region’s heyday, 35.000 spectators gathered here to watch gladiator fights. After visiting this site, we continue to Sousse, the country’s 3rd-largest city and one of its tourism centres. We stop for lunch in this city, known for its scenery and the markets and walls of its maze-like medina in the city centre. After the break, we return to our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel in the Hammamet area.

After breakfast at the hotel, we check out. We leave for the airport at the time specified by our guide. After completing baggage and check-in procedures, we depart for Istanbul at 18.20 on Türk Hava Yolları flight TK 664. We arrive in Istanbul at 23.15 local time, and our tour ends.
