JW Marriott Hotel Nara

We stayed at JW Marriott Hotel Nara for a special anniversary setup, and it turned out to be a wonderful family trip. For dinner, we opted for the teppanyaki restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the special anniversary presentation, and the warm hospitality and thoughtful touches from the staff made the occasion truly memorable. Before dinner, we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks at the bar counter. While sipping on nature-inspired cocktails crafted by the bartender, we had an engaging conversation about local sightseeing spots in Nara. Throughout our stay, we also enjoyed the JW original craft beer, champagne, and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. The guest room was exceptionally comfortable—the height of the bed, the feel of the linens, and the quality of the pillows were all perfect. The shower water pressure was also just right, allowing us to fully relax. Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of us. It was a delightful and unforgettable trip for our family.

We had a wonderful stay at JW Marriott Hotel Nara and would happily return. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, with a stunning lobby, elegant rooms, and a luxurious yet relaxing atmosphere. The location was perfect during cherry blossom season, just a short walk from the iconic Saho River, where the blossoms were in full bloom. The food was exceptional throughout our stay. Breakfast was excellent, dinner was delicious, and even the room service exceeded our expectations. The gym was another highlight. It was spotless, well equipped with modern machines and weights, and a great place to fit in a workout while travelling. Most importantly, every member of staff we met was warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful, making us feel well looked after from start to finish. The only disappointment was that, despite being Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members, we were not able to check in early. After travelling from Australia with a 10 hour flight followed by a 2 hour train journey and a 1 hour car transfer, it was quite exhausting having to spend several more hours exploring the city before our room was ready. We completely understand that early check in is subject to availability, but it would have made a huge difference after such a long journey. Overall, this is a beautiful luxury hotel in a fantastic location with exceptional service, excellent dining, and great facilities. Highly recommended, especially if you are visiting Nara during cherry blossom season.

I stayed here as a Titanium member in February 2026. JW Marriott is the highest brand in the original Marriott line, and this hotel delivers what you'd expect. Very good staff, beautiful building, comfortable rooms, and the check-in process was smooth thanks to the staff's hospitality. - We were upgraded to a Griffin Junior Suite (55sqm) with executive lounge access. It's a gorgeous room with all the latest equipment and an interior that represents Nara well. It's a corner room, but the view is on the city side so it wasn't that interesting. - The executive lounge is open from 7:00 to 22:00, and I genuinely enjoyed it. The drink selection is wide with premium beers, the food quality is good with Nara-featured dishes, and the desserts were nice too. The atmosphere is luxurious and it's less crowded than lower-tier hotels, so you can actually relax there. - Breakfast was a highlight. The dishes are local-fused and high quality, with more variety in Japanese options, which I actually prefer over regular continental breakfast. What I really liked was the bread. The croissant and apple pies had an amazing crust with a very delicate use of butter, making them taste light in the morning but still filling. The staff told me the apple jam was also house-made, which says a lot about the food quality here. I also enjoyed the egg benedict, which you can order when seated, and the smoothies were good. I wish they had some dessert at breakfast, but it's a minor thing. And again, it wasn't crowded, which is always a plus for starting the day with fresh energy. - The location is in the downtown area of Nara city, near the city hall but far from the main tourist spots. This was my second day in Nara and I had already seen most of the tourist places, so it was fine for me. But the downtown area is similar to any other city and I didn't find much in terms of unique characteristics or restaurants. If you're visiting Nara for sightseeing, this might not be the most convenient base. This is a high-quality hotel that matches the JW Marriott standard and offers excellent hospitality with a Nara-fused experience. That said, Shisui (also a Marriott Luxury Collection property) is in the same area but in the traditional tourist district, and offers a much more unique experience. To be fair, they aim for different things. JW delivers the highest experience within the JW expectation without surprising guests too much. If you're from a non-Asian country, you might prefer JW for its familiarity. If you appreciate traditional Japanese culture, Shisui might be more rewarding.
