Gewandhaus Dresden, Autograph Collection

I booked a hotel here while attending a concert at the Kulturpalast and the Christmas markets when they opened. This was a perfect location for both events. I had a corner room and I could see the lights from the market from my room. There were lots of restaurants nearby with great variety and good service within the hotel itself. I didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, but I did have a pastry from the bakery there and it was delicious. It's a location with great walkability to lots of places. I would stay there again.

I have stayed at the Gewandhaus Dresden several times and have always appreciated the hotel’s atmosphere, location, and overall character. Unfortunately, my most recent stay was very disappointing from a service perspective. I arrived at approximately 3:30 p.m., but my room was not ready. While I understand that delays can happen, the front desk clerk was unable to provide any estimate of when the room would be available. Even worse, the interaction was rude and unwelcoming — a memorable example of Eastern German hospitality. My room was eventually ready after 7:00 p.m., but no one notified me. I had to follow up myself, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this level. As a Marriott Platinum member and a repeat guest, I expected much better communication and service. I still like the hotel itself, especially its atmosphere and location, but this experience was extremely disappointing. A delayed room can be forgiven; rude service and a complete lack of communication are much harder to accept, espessially from a hotel which is a part of Autograph collection.
