Our stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto was easily the highlight of the trip. The property itself is stunning—peaceful, beautifully designed, and somehow feels tucked away while still being close to everything. The rooms were exactly what you hope for: clean, modern, super comfortable… and yes, hands down the best toilets we experienced in Japan :) You expect great service at a Four Seasons, but this was on another level. There were so many small “wow” moments throughout the stay, and what really stood out was how the staff and management took the time to actually get to know us. It never felt forced—just genuinely thoughtful and personal. The pool was a huge bonus for the family and a great way to unwind after long days out. Food and drinks were also excellent across the board—no weak spots. One of those places you don’t just enjoy while you’re there—you miss it as soon as you leave.

We booked breakfast at Four Seasons Kyoto to celebrate a birthday, but unfortunately it ended up ruining the occasion. When we arrived, our table and chairs were dirty, with visible oil stains and pieces of food left behind. Service was inattentive throughout the meal. We were rarely checked on, and after we pointed out bones in the fish, the staff seemed to avoid our table instead of addressing the issue. The food was bland, the orange juice tasted like boxed juice, and the matcha arrived spilled across the table. Our table was never cleared, and when tea was served, it was simply placed in front of me without asking who had ordered it. Before paying, we stepped into the hotel garden on the property for a quick look. A staff member ran after us, repeatedly pushing the receipt toward us and insisting we return to pay, even though we had not left the breakfast area. The way this was handled felt degrading and completely unnecessary. Overall, this experience was far below the standard we expected from Four Seasons and well below our past experiences at other luxury hotels. Sadly, what was meant to be a special birthday celebration for our daughter ended up with her entire birthday being overshadowed by this disappointing experience.

Had a couple of hours free prior dinner hence walked in to SEY bar. Ceiling height is impressive and I love how tranquil & calming it is. Staffs are absolutely lovely: Mei, Marius, Airi are super helpful, they recommended drinks those were just fit my preferences and with Kyoto local ingredients. The mini tour in the 800-year-old heritage garden - Shakusui-en was such a memorable pleasure, where I felt deeply connected with the nature, blended in the trees, fishes and the ducks ;) probably one of the best golden hours I’ve experienced.
