Bouddhanath Stupa visit in Kathmandu
Kathmandu · Nepal
About this experience
The Bouddhanath Stupa in Kathmandu is a Tibetan Buddhist centre known for its wide white dome and the eyes painted above it. People walking clockwise around it, prayer wheels and the smell of incense set the rhythm of the scene. Circling the stupa slowly is the most natural way to spend time here.
Walking clockwise around the stupa follows custom. Clothing that covers shoulders and knees is respectful. Be quiet and courteous, and avoid disturbing worshippers when taking photographs. Upper terraces of small cafés nearby are calm places to watch the stupa from above.
