Abu Dhabi Guide 2026

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates, built on an island in the Arabian Gulf. With family theme parks, museums and beach islands, it offers a calmer city holiday than Dubai.

What to see and do in Abu Dhabi

  • Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: the best known building in the city, with white marble domes and a wide courtyard; clothes covering shoulders, arms and legs are needed for the visit.
  • Emirates Palace: the palace hotel known for its gold toned domes; its exterior and grounds are one of the stops on city tours.
  • Louvre Abu Dhabi: a museum on Saadiyat Island, known for its silver dome that filters the light.
  • Corniche: the boulevard and walking path along the Gulf shore.
  • Qasr Al Hosn and Qasr Al Watan: the historic fort that was the first permanent building in the city, and the palace known for its white granite halls.
  • Yas Island: the entertainment hub, with Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and multi-park ticket options.
  • Saadiyat Island: a culture and leisure island known for its beaches and five-star hotels.
  • Zayed National Museum: a museum telling the story of the country.
  • Snow Abu Dhabi and Emirates Park Zoo: places to get out of the heat and spend time as a family.
  • The Iconic Places tour: a city tour covering the main sights.

When to go

In July and August the average high is 42 degrees and the low is 31, which makes outdoor sightseeing hard. November averages 31 degrees, December 26 and January 24, so November to March is the comfortable season. Rain is almost absent, at most 20 millimetres a month.

Getting there from Turkey

MBD currently lists activity tickets, a transfer and hotels for Abu Dhabi, not a tour.

Who it suits

Families with children, theme park fans, travellers who want a beach hotel, and anyone who wants to avoid Dubai's crowds. In summer, long outdoor plans will be hard in the heat.
