If it is your first time in Dubai, think of the places to visit as three clusters: Downtown, the Palm and Marina coast, and the indoor spots and parks where you escape the heat. Each cluster fills half a day or a full one. The order below pairs each place with its length and starting price so you can build a plan.

Key facts

  • Where: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

  • When: Most comfortable from November to March. November highs reach 31 degrees, January 24

  • How long: The places in this guide fit a 3-day plan

  • Price: Products in this guide start from 14.30 USD

  • Visa: Holders of Turkish passports need a visa for Dubai

Downtown Dubai: a one-day core

Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and Dubai Fountain sit within walking distance of one another. Together they fill a day, and they make the easiest first day in the city.

Burj Khalifa

A lift takes you to one of the highest points of the skyline, and a glass-walled terrace looks out over the city. The visit is listed at 2 hours. Sunset slots are busier, so mornings suit a calmer look.

Dubai Aquarium

Inside the mall you walk a 48-metre glass tunnel while sharks and rays pass overhead. Allow about 2.5 hours, and bring a thin layer because it is cool inside. Weekdays are quieter than weekends.

Dubai Fountain and Burj Lake

Hundreds of water jets rise and fall with the music from the middle of the lake. The show repeats at short intervals in the evening, and the promenade fills up, so arrive a little early. To watch the same show from water level, a 30-minute ride on a traditional abra boat runs on Burj Lake.

Looking down: Dubai Frame and The View at The Palm

Two high points show Dubai from two sides. They sit in different districts, so do not plan both for the same day.

Dubai Frame

A 150-metre frame in Zabeel Park (Gate 4). The ticket includes a 50-metre glass bridge on the Sky Deck, with old Dubai neighbourhoods on one side and the new towers on the other. The visit takes 2 hours and the minimum age is 3. Early morning or late afternoon is calmer and better for light.

The View at The Palm

At 240 metres on the tower of the palm-shaped island, the terrace is open on every side. You see the curving fronds, the coastal hotels and the skyline across the water in one circuit. Sunset is best but busier. It can be windy up there, so a light layer helps.

An evening on the water at the Marina

Yacht and boat tours leave from Dubai Marina. The shared 1-hour yacht tour starts at 26.96 USD and the sunset and dinner cruise at 43.57 USD. With sunset around 17:30 in winter, you catch the light on deck. A 170-metre urban zipline runs in the same area.

Hot days and family days

Indoor places earn their keep in the hours when walking outside is a chore. Ski Dubai gives you real snow, with skiing or sledging inside the mall. The listed length is 4 hours and the minimum age is 3. The entry package includes a winter jacket, trousers and snow boots, and gloves and thick socks are worth bringing.

Dubai Safari Park is a walking day among African and Asian villages, with animals shown in settings close to their habitat. Set aside half a day. Mornings are often livelier, because animals may retreat to shade in the hot hours.

Old Dubai and quieter hours

Dubai is not only skyscrapers. On the Deira side, the fish market is a stop where you pick your catch at the counter and have it cleaned on the spot. It is a good half day away from the towers.

A 3-day sample route

  1. Day 1, Downtown: Burj Khalifa in the morning, Dubai Aquarium in the afternoon, the water show or an abra ride on the lake in the evening

  3. Day 3, the Palm and the Marina: sunset at The View at The Palm in the late afternoon, then a Marina walk or a yacht tour

If the day is rainy or very hot, Ski Dubai and Dubai Aquarium can take the place of day 3 as indoor options.
