There are two ways to see Bali through MBD Travel: a ready-made tour from Istanbul, or a hotel in one of two very different parts of the island. Three Bali tours are listed on the site. The Tropical Island Bali Tour stays 5 nights in Nusa Dua. The Tropical Island Bali and Ubud Tour combines Nusa Dua with Ubud. Both fly with Singapore Airlines. The third is a Bali and Ubud tour with Emirates, connecting in Dubai. None of these three has a scheduled departure today, but you can leave an advance request on their pages. Two more tours, with Emirates and Turkish Airlines, have dates and include the temple and rice terrace trips in the price. On the hotel side, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan in Ubud and Jumeirah Bali near Uluwatu are open for direct booking. Below we also explain which programme includes the temple and rice terrace trips.

Two sides of the island: Ubud's valley, Bukit's coast

Indonesia Travel, the country's official tourism site, calls Bali the Island of the Gods. It describes Ubud as the island's centre of culture and art, defined by terraced rice fields and traditional dance performances. The Bukit Peninsula in the south is a different Bali, with cliffs and beaches facing the ocean. The same source lists Tanah Lot and Uluwatu Temple among the island's best-known temples.

A resort in Ubud: Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan

Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is a 5-star resort in Sayan, in the Ubud area. Its hotel page lists 60 rooms, with an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a sauna and massage treatments among the facilities. Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport is 29 km away as the crow flies. This hotel is for travellers who want Bali's forest and cultural side more than its coast.

A beach resort on the Bukit Peninsula: Jumeirah Bali

Jumeirah Bali is a 5-star resort in Pecatu on the Bukit Peninsula, set directly on the beach. It is a 3-minute drive from New Kuta Green Park, 3.5 km from Balangan Beach and 7.7 km from Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. Its hotel page says each of its 119 rooms has a fireplace, a private pool and a private balcony. There are two restaurants, a cafe, a bar, a full-service spa, a health club and an outdoor pool. The airport is 7.6 km away as the crow flies.

The two hotels share an island but offer two different versions of Bali. One gives you calm inland, in Ubud's green landscape. The other gives you resort life on the ocean in the south.

Three ready-made tours: Nusa Dua, Ubud and a route via Dubai

  • Tropical Island Bali Tour, 5 nights, Singapore Airlines: Flights from Istanbul via Singapore and 5 nights in Nusa Dua on a bed and breakfast basis. The hotels in the programme are Mercure Nusa Dua (4-star) or Holiday Inn Resort Nusa Dua (5-star). The return also connects in Singapore.
  • Tropical Island Bali and Ubud Tour, 5 nights, Singapore Airlines: The same flight pattern, with the last two nights in Ubud. Hotel options are Best Western Premier Agung (4-star) or Alaya Resort Ubud (5-star).
  • Bali and Ubud Tour, 5 nights, Emirates: Return flights via Dubai, the first nights in Ubud and then on Bali's coast, 5 nights bed and breakfast.

On both Singapore Airlines tours, a Turkish-speaking guide and airport transfers are included in the price. Bali's tourist tax, museum and site entrance fees and extra tours are not. On the free days there are optional extra tours. One goes to Ulun Danu Temple on the shore of Lake Bratan and to Tanah Lot. Another takes in Uluwatu Temple and the Kecak dance at sunset. A third covers the Tegallalang rice terraces and the Tirta Empul holy water temple. The Emirates tour has its own extra tours, such as the Sacred Monkey Forest and temples, Nusa Penida Island and Tanah Lot. None of the three tours has a scheduled departure right now. When a date opens it appears on the product page, and until then you can leave an advance request.

Two tours with the temple and rice terrace trips included

Two more tours fly from Istanbul and have their dates on the product pages. They are the Ubud Bali Tour with Emirates, 5 nights and the Ubud and Bali Tour with Turkish Airlines, 7 nights. The price covers scheduled economy return flights, bed and breakfast, airport and hotel transfers and a Turkish-speaking guide. It also covers these excursions: Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and the Sangeh Monkey Forest; Kintamani, Mount Batur and Goa Gajah; the Tegalalang rice terraces and Tanah Lot Temple; and a Nusa Dua and Jimbaran tour with dinner. The swing photo session is not included.

What to know about the temples and rice terraces

According to Indonesia Travel, Uluwatu Temple stands on a limestone cliff above the ocean and is known for its Kecak dance performances at sunset. Tanah Lot is a sea temple built on a rocky outcrop in the sea, a favourite spot for photos, especially at sunset. Temple visits call for clothing that covers the shoulders and knees. The same source says sarongs and sashes are usually provided at the entrance.

Indonesia Travel places the Tegallalang rice terraces about 20 minutes north of Ubud. The terraces are laid out according to subak, Bali's traditional irrigation system. Between 30 minutes and an hour and a half is enough to walk around the area. Our rice terrace experience page has no published booking offer today. This trip appears as an extra tour on the Singapore Airlines tours above. On the Emirates and Turkish Airlines tours with the excursions included, it is in the price.

Which experience comes with which programme

Bali's signature experiences have their own pages on the site, but they are not all sold the same way. The monkey forest visit appears in the programme of the Indonesia Malaysia Singapore Bali tour. The traditional Balinese massage experience is linked to the two Singapore Airlines tours. On arrival day there is free time before hotel check-in to have a massage at a place the guide recommends, and the massage is not included in the price. So an experience page is not a booking on its own. You need to choose the right tour for the experience you want.

You can also explore Bali through our culture and history holidays, the Indonesia country page or the Far East region guide.

Where should I stay in Bali, Ubud or the Bukit Peninsula?

Ubud is inland and offers a calmer atmosphere built around culture and nature. The Bukit Peninsula and the Nusa Dua area are on the ocean and better suited to a beach-centred holiday.

Which airlines are the Bali tours sold with?

The site has five Bali tours departing from Istanbul. Two fly with Singapore Airlines via Singapore. Two fly with Emirates and one with Turkish Airlines. The first three tours in this guide have no scheduled departure right now, and advance requests are taken. The Emirates 5-night tour and the Turkish Airlines 7-night tour have dates on their pages.

Are Uluwatu and Tanah Lot temples included in the tours?

On the Singapore Airlines tours these temples are part of the extra tours run on free days, and are not included in the price. On the Emirates tour without excursions, Tanah Lot is part of the extra-cost Beach Club and Tanah Lot tour. On the Emirates and Turkish Airlines tours with excursions included, Tanah Lot is in the price.

Which month should I go to Bali?

According to the 2021 to 2025 monthly averages on our site, the average high on Bali's coast stays between 27 and 29 degrees all year. There is no noticeably cold month.

How should I dress for a temple visit?

Indonesia Travel says clothing that covers the shoulders and knees is expected. Sarongs and sashes are usually provided at the temple entrance.
