Sheraton Grand Hiroshima Hotel

The location is next door to the remodeled Hiroshima Station! It has a ton of great food options, an amazing grocery store and makes it so easy coming off of the bullet train and taking trains in Hiroshima. It’s easy to navigate at this station. Our corner king room had fabulous views. I loved the open/clean bathroom feel too. The breakfast buffet exceeded expectations as well. I was told by the family several times, nice work picking this place! Oh and bonus-there is a Pokeman store next door in the station. My son scored cards and many stuffies there. It was the cherry on top! We loved this high rise hotel in beautiful Hiroshima. P.S. Take the Aquanet fast paced ferry to Mijajima Island. It was one of our favorite activities we did in Japan.

I stayed here as a Titanium member. I don't think this hotel deserves the "Grand" title, and to be honest the experience was far below what I expect from a non-Fairfield Marriott hotel in Japan. The one real plus is the location: it's directly connected to Hiroshima Station, about a minute's walk, so as a base it's perfect. Almost everything else was disappointing. The restaurant staff. This was the worst part. Before we checked in, we passed the lobby-level restaurant and a lady staff asked if we'd like orange juice. We said no, and she said "it's free." Interesting that she assumed we declined because we were worried about the charge. We walked away. The front desk was very nice and we picked a sweet option for our membership gift, then we came back to the restaurant area to collect the sweet box, and the same lady came up again, asked if we'd decided on dinner, we said okonomiyaki, and she said "here's a 30% off coupon if you use our restaurant." Again. Senior staff were standing around and didn't stop her, so it looks like she was told to push guests like this. - This wastes guests' time begging them to use the restaurant, and it belittles guests as if we're easily swayed by price. It's the wrong practice and they should stop immediately. Guests will use a hotel restaurant if it's genuinely good, that's it. If they want to compete with cheaper hotels on price, they should leave the Marriott network. - On top of that, there are 20% off restaurant pop-ups on every floor, which feels desperate. I get the impression they can't improve the quality, so they cut the price instead. The food. I went to the restaurant for breakfast and the quality was disappointing. Limited selection of food and juice, and it doesn't show off the local character. The oyster omelet was interesting, but other than that the food wasn't good, and the fruit in particular was below expectation. The room. The in-room equipment is outdated, which fits a hotel that opened in 2011 and hasn't really been updated: old dryer, an INAX toilet with a physical flush lever, and an insert-card slot for the master power. There's no card security at the elevator or for lounge access. The toilet room door has a gap and no lock, so it feels very uncomfortable. The lounge. Very small with a limited selection of food and drinks. Not worth visiting. To be fair, the front desk staff were nice and the price was cheap even booking just a few days before the stay. But everything and everyone else was disappointing. At check-in all the upgradable rooms were already sold, so I got no upgrade beyond a high floor. To me that's a sign the hotel just sells everything cheap instead of competing on quality and hospitality. The building looks nice from the outside, but the operation side hurts the branding. I won't want to come back unless I have to.
