Quality Hotel The Mill

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience at Quality Hotel The Mill Malmö was extremely disappointing and honestly nowhere near what I would expect from a “4-star hotel.” Before booking, I specifically called the hotel to ask if all rooms were pet friendly because I travel with a small, very well-behaved Boston Terrier. I was told that all rooms were pet friendly, so I booked a Suite for 5 nights (21st–26th), paying over €900 well in advance. Two days before arrival, I called again just to double-check, only to suddenly be told that dogs are NOT allowed in Suites. Instead of the Suite I originally booked, I was downgraded to a “family/disabled” room with two separate beds pushed together with toppers instead of a proper queen-size mattress. Walking into that room after expecting a premium suite was honestly shocking. The room itself was incredibly underwhelming: * No fridge * No wardrobe/closet * We had to live out of suitcases during a close friend’s wedding trip (Imagine the dress of my wife) * Cleaning is “on request” only * Upon arrival, some towels were wet and left on the floor * Trash in the room had not even been cleaned properly The compensation offered for downgrading us from the most expensive room category in the hotel? Two tiny bags of popcorn and a small pack of jellybeans. That was apparently their solution after taking over €900 for a downgraded stay. The hotel also has: * No room service * Extremely limited restaurant hours * No possibility to order food to the room I have honestly had better experiences in 2-star hotels around the world than at this property. What frustrates me most is not the money itself — I would gladly pay even more for quality service and transparency. What is unacceptable is being downgraded after booking, then being told that “current room rates are similar anyway.” I booked one month in advance specifically for the Suite experience. Current rates are irrelevant. This hotel markets itself as 4 stars, but the service, amenities, cleanliness, communication, and handling of customer issues felt closer to a 1-star experience.

The hotel was clean and the staff were polite and professional, however the overall stay did not fully meet my expectations for a 4-star hotel. The room felt quite basic and lacked several amenities I would normally expect, such as a fridge, wardrobe, kettle, tissues, and other standard conveniences. One aspect I found particularly disappointing was the bedding arrangement. The double bed was provided with two separate single quilts instead of one proper double quilt, which made sleeping less comfortable. The quilts themselves were also quite small. While the location was convenient, the overall comfort and room setup could be improved to better match the hotel’s 4star rating.

This hotel was basic. I stayed for 10 days and felt safe. Bed was comfortable and my basic needs were met. Staff was friendly. One thing I was disappointed in is there were zero dressers/closets/ wardrobe to unpack my clothes. I chose the hotel because of its location and proximity to my daughter’s apartment. Everything is very walkable from this hotel. If I travel again to Malmö by myself I will stay here again. Just don’t expect an upscale room or extras.
