Le Caspien

Located in Gueliz we were fortunate to find an on street parking spot less than 20m away for our car at an additional 30MAD for 24 hours payable to a parking attendant not connected to the hotel. Upon entering we were greeted warmly and advised that we'd been upgraded to a junior suite situated on the 5th floor (accessible by 2 lifts/stairs). The suite was spacious and had it's own balcony overlooking the rear of the hotel with bistro table, 2 chairs and a sun lounger. It was screened with artificial grass so was not overlooked, however this meant no view over Marrakech. We were not advised at the time of the building work that was going on directly above the suite, and if we'd been staying longer we would have requested a different room with less noise disturbance. The room itself was very clean and comfortable with TV, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge and safe. The en suite was small and a little dated but very clean and functionable. The Caspien has 2 restaurants/bars on site however we chose to eat in one of the many alternatives in the neighborhood. Breakfast however was plentiful and very tasty! The staff, without exception, were incredibly friendly and proficient in their roles. A great choice for a stop over and not a million miles (20 minutes walk) from the Medina/old town either.

pretty good hotel! rooms are on the smaller side (especially the bathroom) but pretty comfortable. bed is good. the shower is inside a bathtub so not practical for older people or when your mobility is compromised. also they are doing some sort of renovation now which caused us some noise disturbances. breakfast is served to the table. make sure to ask for the msemen or omelet. coffee isn’t great but not bad. the restaurant has a good vibe, good service, pretty expensive for morocco though. the location is outside the centre but within 30 minutes walking distance. the hotel is close to a shopping mall.

The location of the hotel is good, but I would not recommend it for solo travellers. Every evening after around 8 p.m., there were beggars and people approaching and following tourists outside the hotel, which made me feel unsafe. We booked the hotel with breakfast included, but I was very disappointed with the breakfast selection. Every day it was almost exactly the same: croissants and bread served on a tray. After a few days, we stopped going for breakfast and only attended three times during our six-day stay. I also noticed a difference in the way guests were treated. Guests who spoke Arabic seemed to receive better service, including extra eggs, pancakes, and more attention from the staff. As English speakers, communication was difficult because the staff spoke very little English, and we often felt ignored. We were rarely asked what we wanted, which made the experience uncomfortable and disappointing. The rooms and bathrooms felt very old and poorly maintained. Many things seemed fragile and close to breaking, so we did not feel very comfortable during our stay. Overall, I was disappointed with the hotel accommodation and would not stay at this hotel again.
