Renaissance Luzern Hotel

We had a pleasant stay at the Renaissance Lucerne Hotel. The biggest advantage of this property is definitely its excellent location. It is just a few minutes’ walk from the Lucerne train station and is also very conveniently located for the bus station, boat pier, Old Town and most of the main attractions. There is also a Coop supermarket close by, which was extremely handy. The rooms are of a decent size and were comfortable, although the interiors do feel a little dated and could use some refurbishment. Nothing that affected our stay significantly, but for a Renaissance property, we expected the rooms to feel a little more modern. One disappointment was that breakfast was not included with our Marriott Bonvoy points booking, which would have been a nice addition, especially considering the category of the hotel. Overall, we were happy with our stay. The location is the real highlight and makes the hotel an extremely convenient base for exploring Lucerne, particularly if you are relying on trains, buses and boats during your trip.

The room size is not big but it is warm. The bed is comfortable and firm. I have been upgraded to a studio suite but quite sadly it doesn't come with a bath tub otherwise perfect. The toilet size is too small and a little squeezy. Unfortunately the bath cubicle doesn't come with a door and shower water spilled out into the toilet. The TV comes with limited channels. Location wise is quite good as it is within a short walk to the old town. The hotel breakfast spread was limited but offers a filling breakfast for the day. Service was excellent in both the hotel and restaurant. They offer parking in hotel for a flat rate of 35 swiss franc. There are only 3 lots available so do reserve in advance.

The room and bedsheets smelled off, and this is definitely not a five-star hotel experience — not in a million years. My room (112) was right next to the ice machine, and I could hear it popping loudly late at night. In general, the hotel was really noisy. Some things they can’t control (other loud guests), but some things they can — like the ice machine placement. The gym was also the smallest and darkest I’ve ever seen. Don’t expect too much. (Only applicable for work trips) I was here on a work trip and ran into serious billing confusion. At check-in, I asked for my company card to be used for payment, with my personal card only kept on file for the deposit. At checkout, my personal card was charged anyway by mistake, and I was told it would be refunded. They then charged the company card too. One day later, I received an email asking me to re-confirm my personal card number. I did, but was then told it “didn’t match” what they had in their system — which didn’t make sense, since nothing had changed. They’d probably mixed up my cards again. The issue is still unresolved. I’ve stayed in Lucerne many times for work and never experienced this kind of confusion before, so I don’t think it’s typical of the area — but the payment handling here felt disorganized and left me quite unsettled. Would strongly recommend double- and triple-checking your payment method at check-in, or considering another hotel.
