Renaissance Aix-en-Provence Hotel

Pros: Location is excellent, within an 8-minute walking distance to the modern town center. As a driver, the valet service is a much loved boon, especially after a long drive, and the team handling the cars are all friendly and professional. This includes the concierge team. Housekeeping team were all friendly. Areas for improvement: Breakfast - price between Continental and American makes little sense, given the hot offering lacks variety and quality (basically of eggs, bacon, mushroom etc). If I recall there were only 5 additional options, but the price difference seemed excessive. For a hotel that asks you to skip room towel washing to assist with the environment (understandable), was a bit perplexed to come back to the room with all the lights left on after cleaning. Keep them off. Service was OK. Again, I could only point out those who assisted us at concierge and the valet team as having a great sense of welcoming us. We ate breakfast over the three days, service was unremarkable to be honest. Walk in, take your food, go. Not really 5* if compared to other properties - people say hello, but that’s about it (no table check, no ask for a second round of coffee when it’s quiet and staff are standing around etc.) Also, for a hotel that offers a spa - we arrived on Sunday afternoon, we were looking to book a couple session. We went down, no one was at the desk. When we asked reception, we were told that they only had one person on that day. Fine, fair enough. Did the receptionist offer to help us book a session? No. She did give us a QR code to scan and book the session ourselves though. That’s why we go to 5* hotels afterall, for the QR codes! We opted not to book in the end, so a lost business opportunity? Kick the QR codes, have the FOH team be a bit more familiar spa programming to 1) boost sales, 2) be genuinely helpful as a one-stop-shop point of access for the hotel and its amenities. All-in-all; it’s a good hotel for convenience and services associated with said convenience. Other than that, very average. My fiancée has family in the area, so we will be visiting AIX again, but would probably stay somewhere else.

This is my first time staying here. I will definitely stay here again in the future. The entire staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast is great and the restaurant in the evening is fantastic. I would like to give special thanks to Mariana, she helped me and my travel mates communicate a lot better in Spanish, our french is not good at all. I have no complaints at all. Love the location, love the staff, love the food and culture. Thank you.

Concierge for guest services is tops! Received a great tip for a perfect country tour and the following day the host helped up secure important ticket info for a concert at the Cathedral Saint Sauveur. Hotel location is not directly in the market area, but access to shops and dining is an easy short walk: well lit, felt safe in the evenings. Lovely breakfast, too, and the hotel is clean and well-staffed.
