Novotel Aix-en-Provence Pont-de-l'Arc Fenouillères

This partly renovated hotel bunker from the 1960‘s does not have a lot of redeeming qualities. First off, it looks like a run down hotel as you pull into the hotel parking lot. Don‘t bother to stay here without a car, it’s a good 35 minute walk to Aix from the hotel. Once you walk inside, they have tried to fix up the interior to make it more modern but there is a strong smell of perfume (probably to mask mold smells) in every common area of the hotel. The room itself was modern decorated but with a sloped, vinyl sofa bed that couldn’t even be used to sit on as it was so crooked. My room was next to the main stairs and elevator which I could hear non-stop starting about 4am. I arrived at 9am for breakfast to many empty plates and baskets on the buffet that were never refilled. In all, a very disappointing stay. The garden/pool area looks lovely, although the situation near the road will for sure take away a bit of relaxing atmosphere.

Dishonest and disappointing – beware of misleading information! We booked by phone for the same evening and were clearly told that breakfast was included in the room rate. Upon arrival, we reconfirmed the price and paid in full. The next morning, at check-out, they insisted that breakfast was not included and made us pay extra, despite our protests. To make things worse, an online check for the following night showed the same room with breakfast included at a lower price. When I reached out to customer service, their answer was simply that “on that specific night breakfast was not included.” No apology, no recognition of their mistake. Our good faith was evident, yet they preferred to lose a customer rather than admit an error. Totally unprofessional and disappointing. There are plenty of hotels that value their guests — this one clearly doesn’t.
