Hyatt Grand Central New York

When we arrived after a shocking flight we were greeted with polite staff. We originally booked a king Delux room and we upgraded to a junior suit. This room is absolutely amazing, fantastic views, comfy beds and a lounge area. We were even given access to the Commodore lounge which was ideal for tea and coffee and a continental breakfast on days we didn't want to go out for breakfast. All of the door staff have been very nice. The hotel is in an amazing location right next to grand central and walking distance to time square and central park. The is also a taxi rank just up from the hotel which is great. I highly recommend this hotel and I would definitely stay here again

The location of this hotel is great. Everything is walkable. The grand station is literally 3 mins away. The reason why I have given only 4 stars is because the rooms were dirty. I could see dust on the tables, dirt in between furniture. The room was otherwise ok. One of the things that did surprise me was that they don’t offer even the courtesy 2 bottles of water like in their other hotels. We had just come from staying in their property in Washington. But they did give us a voucher to buy from their market shop. The biggest plus is the location.

I’ve stayed at many Hyatt properties over the years, and this is the first time I’ve left feeling disappointed. The biggest issue was the room temperature. The thermostat wouldn’t go below 65°F, but even at the lowest setting, the room felt closer to 80°F. It was uncomfortably warm throughout our stay, and we found ourselves sweating whenever we were in the room. The room safe was already broken when we checked in and wasn’t fixed until the following day. Then, when I tried to open it again the day before our departure, it was broken once more and required another visit from a locksmith. That alone tells you the safe is likely an ongoing problem rather than a one-time issue. The bathtub drain opening was also left exposed, which looked dirty and poorly maintained. We paid extra for a “view” room, only to discover it was a tiny window with a very limited view. Save your money because the upgrade simply wasn’t worth it. Another disappointment was that there are no microwaves available anywhere in the hotel—not in the guest rooms and not even in the food market downstairs. If you have leftovers or need to warm up food, you’re simply out of luck. There were a few positives. The hotel charges $4 per bag to store luggage after checkout, which was convenient. The location is excellent: it is directly next to Grand Central Terminal, within walking distance of Times Square and Bryant Park, and SUMMIT One Vanderbilt is literally next door. Unfortunately, despite the fantastic location, the room quality, repeated maintenance issues, and lack of basic amenities made this my most disappointing Hyatt stay to date. For the first time, I am leaving a Hyatt with a sour taste. I would recommend choosing a different Hyatt property if you’re visiting New York.
