Valle de la Luna in Atacama is a desert valley whose weathered rock formations resemble the surface of the moon. As the sun sets behind the Andes, rocks and sand dunes change colour from orange to purple. Watching sunset in the silence of the desert is among the most striking moments of the region.
Temperatures in the desert fall fast after sunset, so bring a light coat. Wear closed shoes for the sand.
