Traditional Japanese tea ceremony in Kyoto
Kyoto · Japan
About this experience
A tea ceremony in Kyoto begins in a plain room. Matcha is prepared with care, the bowl is turned and offered to you, and a light sweet comes alongside the tea. The slowness of the movements is a way of stepping back from the city's noise.
Shoes come off and you sit on tatami; if your knees struggle, say so beforehand. The tea can be strong and bitter, and sipping it with the sweet gives balance. Clean socks are a good idea.
