Ascent to the lost Inca citadel of Machu Picchu
Cusco · Peru
About this experience
Machu Picchu is visited as an Inca city high in the Andes, appearing through the clouds. You walk past stone terraces, stepped fields on the slope and narrow passages, while Huayna Picchu draws a sharp outline behind. The view of the site keeps changing as mist opens and closes.
Steps and slopes can leave you short of breath, so move slowly to adjust to the altitude. Bring non-slip shoes, water, sunscreen and a rain jacket. Weather can change within an hour. Do not climb on the stones and follow the guide's route; early hours bring more mist and fewer crowds.
