Visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Otowa Waterfall

Kiyomizu-dera is an old temple on Kyoto's eastern slope, facing the city from a wooden terrace. The terrace spills toward the city and forest; below, the Otowa waterfall's three separate streams run beneath the temple. Visitors queue to drink from these waters.

The approach is a hill lined with shops, so comfortable shoes are a must. Early morning and late afternoon light is calm and lovely. There may be a queue to drink from the Otowa streams, so be patient.
