Manaus is the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, on the Rio Negro in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. The Meeting of the Waters, where the dark Rio Negro and the pale Solimões flow side by side, is just outside the city, and the Amazon Theatre from the rubber boom stands in it.
