MBD Travel Málaga Guide
More than a list of sights: a practical guide to planning the order of your trip, choosing where to stay and adapting the plan to the season.
Málaga Guide 2026
Málaga lies on the Mediterranean coast of Andalusia in southern Spain and is the largest city on the Costa del Sol. It is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, and a Moorish fortress, museums and a city beach all sit within walking distance of each other.
What to see in Málaga
- The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro: a Moorish fortress on the hill above the port, with the castle walls higher up.
- The cathedral: in the middle of the old town, nicknamed "the one-armed lady" because one tower was never finished.
- The Picasso Museum: in the city where the artist was born, inside the old town.
- The harbour promenade and La Malagueta: cafes by the sea and the city beach.
When to go
July and August average a high of 31 degrees with almost no rain, 1 to 2 millimetres. January ranges from 16 to 10 degrees, so winters are mild. March is the wettest month with 135 millimetres. April, May and October are comfortable months for sightseeing.
Getting there from Turkey
In MBD's Spain and Andalusian Cities Tour, Málaga is visited on the "Cordoba, Mijas and Malaga" day. The tours run 6 to 7 nights from Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Ajet and Turkish Airlines are listed, and there is also an option from Izmir with SunExpress. Dates and prices are on the tour page.
Who it suits
Travellers who want culture and a beach on the same trip, art lovers, and anyone looking for a base in Andalusia. Climbing to the fortress in midday summer heat is tiring.
