MBD Travel Belgrade Guide
More than a list of sights: a practical guide to planning the order of your trip, choosing where to stay and adapting the plan to the season.
Belgrade Guide 2026
Belgrade is the capital of Serbia, built where the Danube and Sava rivers meet. With its fortress, cafe streets and lively nightlife, it is one of the busiest cities in the Balkans, and it carries traces of a shared history that feel familiar to travellers from Turkey.
What to see in Belgrade
- Kalemegdan Fortress: the fortress and park on the hill above the meeting of the two rivers.
- Knez Mihailova: the pedestrian shopping street in the old town.
- Skadarlija: a cobbled bohemian quarter with restaurants.
- The Church of Saint Sava: one of the largest Orthodox churches in the city.
When to go
July and August average a high of 31 to 32 degrees. January ranges from 7 to 1 degree. February is the driest month with 35 millimetres, and May and November are wet with 84 and 85. May and September are comfortable for sightseeing.
Getting there from Turkey
Belgrade is the centre of MBD's Belgrade's Traces Tour, which runs 3 nights from Istanbul with Turkish Airlines. The 6 Countries in the Balkans tour also includes Belgrade, for 7 nights and with the same departure city and airline. Dates and prices are on the tour page.
Who it suits
People who want a short city break, and those who enjoy history and nightlife together. It is not the main stop for a nature or quiet holiday.
