The Malta, Pearl of the Mediterranean tour is a four day journey from Istanbul to Malta. The first day covers Valetta, with Barrakka Gardens and St. John's Co-Cathedral. Three nights on a Mediterranean island make up this short Malta tour. A city tour of Valletta is part of the programme. Optional trips add the island of Gozo, Mdina and Mosta with the Three Cities, and the fishing town of Marsaxlokk. The route of the journey
01Istanbul - Malta - Valetta - MaltaBarrakka Gardens, St. John's Co-Cathedral and the Grand Master's Palace.
Exploring Valetta
We will meet at Istanbul Airport’s international departures terminal, in front of the Turkish Airlines counter, 3 hours before the flight. After completing baggage, ticket and passport procedures, we will depart for Malta at 07.40 on Turkish Airlines flight TK1369. On arrival at 09.05 local time, we will take the vehicle waiting for us at the airport and begin our city tour of the capital, Valetta. After driving around the city walls, we will explore the streets of the capital. Our first stop will be Barrakka Gardens, built on the upper section of the defensive walls surrounding the city. These gardens, created by the Knights of St. John, offer views of the Grand Harbour and 3 old walled cities. Our tour will continue with sights including St. John’s Co-Cathedral, the Grand Master’s Palace and the Parliament Building. After the tour, we will be transferred to our hotel. We will spend the night at the hotel.
02Malta - Gozo - MaltaAn optional ferry tour to Gozo, Ta'Pinu Church and Victoria.
Gozo Island option
After breakfast at the hotel, guests who wish can join the optional Gozo Island Tour at an extra charge (80 Euro). We depart early in the morning by ferry from Cirkewwa Port in the north of the island to Gozo, Malta's second-largest island. During the journey of approximately half an hour, we will also see the country's small islands of Comino and Cominotto. Upon arrival, our tour will take us to Ta'Pinu Church, Dwejra, the Inland Sea, Fungus Rock and the fishing village of Marsalforn. Our final stop will be Victoria, the island's capital. Here we will see the island's main church, the city walls, the Palace of Justice and the Bishop's Palace. After free time in the city, we will return to Malta by ferry. Following the tour, we will transfer to our hotel. We will spend the night at the hotel.
03Malta - Mdina and Mosta - 3 Cities - MaltaAn optional tour of Mdina, Mosta and the Three Cities.
Mdina, Mosta and the Three Cities
After breakfast at the hotel, guests who wish can join the optional Towns and Cities (Mdina & Mosta & Vittoriosa & Senglea & Cospicua) tour at an extra cost. (80 Euro) On this tour, we will visit the area around the historic Mdina Castle in central Malta. While exploring Mdina, Malta's former capital, we will visit the city walls, which offer an almost complete 360-degree panoramic view of the island of Malta. We will then continue to the historic town of Mosta in the centre of Malta. The town is known for the Rotunda Church (Mosta Dome). The church has a large unsupported dome in Europe and is associated with a miracle because a bomb that fell into it during the 2nd World War did not explode. Our next stop will be the Three Cities (Vittoriosa - Senglea - Cospicua). With their narrow stone streets, walled buildings, baroque churches and waterfront walkways, these cities are where the Knights of Malta first settled in the 16th century. The cities formed the foundation of the island's military defences, and each bears traces of the knights, the Ottoman sieges and Malta's maritime past. After the tour, we will transfer to our hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
04Malta - Marsaxloxx - Malta - IstanbulAn optional Marsaxlokk tour, then an evening flight to Istanbul.
Marsaxlokk and flight home
After breakfast at the hotel, guests who wish may join the optional Marsaxlokk Tour at an extra cost. (40 Euro) Marsaxlokk is a traditional fishing town whose name comes from the Arabic word marsa, meaning harbour, and the xlokk wind that blows from the southeast. The town is known for its harbour with traditional luzzu boats painted in various colours, its close ties to the sea, and its restaurants serving seafood. After the tour, transfer to the airport at a time set by the guide. After baggage, ticket and passport procedures are completed, depart for Istanbul at 19.30 on Turkish Airlines flight TK1372. Our tour ends upon arrival at 23.00 local time.
