Sixteen days that run the length of southern South America and then head out into the Pacific. The trip opens in Buenos Aires with the tango streets, Caminito and the Recoleta cemetery, and closes its first day with a boat trip through the Tigre Delta.
From there the route heads south. Ushuaia is the southernmost town on earth, and it brings Tierra del Fuego National Park, the End of the World Train and a boat tour of the Beagle Channel. At El Calafate the Perito Moreno Glacier is seen twice over, from the land terraces and again from the water. The road then crosses into Chile for a panoramic run through Torres del Paine, and at Punta Arenas a boat reaches the Magellan Island penguin colonies.
The last stretch belongs to Chile. A full day in Santiago is followed by Easter Island, 3,500 kilometres out in the Pacific, where the Rano Raraku quarry, the fifteen standing Moai of Ahu Tongariki and Anakena Beach fill two days. All domestic flights, hotels, excursions and the meals listed are included.
Perito Moreno Glacier
A boat tour brings the ice face close, seen also from the viewing walkways.
Torres del Paine
The Torres range and the Cuernos del Paine rise above Lake Sarmiento and Lake Nordenskjöld.
The Moai of Easter Island
Carved at the Rano Raraku quarry, fifteen Moai stand in a row at Ahu Tongariki.

Plaza de Mayo is the historic heart of the capital, ringed by the pink facade of the Casa Rosada, the cathedral and the Cabildo. In San Telmo we walk through colonial streets that gave tango its first stages. Caminito in La Boca is known for its painted tin houses and for Boca Juniors, and we stop here to walk and take photographs. In Recoleta we visit the cemetery where Eva Perón is buried, then look at Puerto Madero, the modern dockside quarter.
Lunch is in Puerto Madero, built around the Argentine parrilla tradition.
In the afternoon an hour on the road brings us to the Tigre Delta, a settlement built where the river meets the sea. A one-hour boat trip takes in the channels, the dense vegetation and the coloured houses standing on the water. We return to the city centre afterwards.

The End of the World Train, the Tren del Fin del Mundo, runs a 7-kilometre track that was once used to carry prisoners exiled to the region out to their work sites. Inside the park we stop to walk among Patagonian vegetation, quiet bays and mountain views.

At Bird Island we see gulls, cormorants and other local species in their own habitat. Sea Lion Island is the emblem of the channel, with dozens of sea lions visible at close range. There is free time on the walkways facing the glacier. Different terraces give different angles on the ice front, and with luck you will see huge blocks calve away and drop into the water.

We are met at the airport and taken to the hotel. After a short rest we begin a half-day island tour. The crater of the extinct Rano Kau volcano holds the largest crater lake on the island, and we walk its rim.
