After visiting Girona, we depart for Figueras. Located northeast of Girona, Figueres is the birthplace of Salvador Dali. The city is closely connected to the life and work of the Spanish painter Salvador Dali. The main tourist attraction in Figueres is the Salvador Dali Museum. Dali established this museum to leave something to his birthplace and display his works. 03Barcelona - Park Güell and the Gothic Quarter - BarcelonaOptional visits to Park Güell, the Gothic Quarter and the seaside town of Sitges.
Park Güell and the Gothic Quarter
After breakfast at the hotel, guests who wish may join the optional Gaudi’s Work: Park Guell & Gothic Quarter tour at an extra charge. (60 Euro) The first stop will be Park Guell. One of Antoni Gaudi’s works, Park Guell is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Also known as a fairy-tale park, it is known for its colourful stairways and pavilions designed in imaginative shapes. After visiting the park, the tour will continue to the Gothic Quarter. Here, visitors can see narrow, maze-like streets dating from the Middle Ages, Gothic churches, squares and Roman walls. The main sights in the quarter include Barcelona Cathedral, Plaça Reial (Royal Square), Plaça del Rei (King’s Square) and La Rambla.
After the tour, guests who wish may join the optional Sitges Tour at an extra charge. (40 Euro) Located southwest of Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast, Sitges is a seaside town known for its turquoise waters and beaches, as well as its art and cultural events. The town is home to art galleries, museums and festivals. The visit will begin at the steps of San Bartolome-Santa Tecla Cathedral, followed by a walk through the historic streets. Dating from the 17th century, the cathedral was built on the remains of Romanesque and Gothic churches. After the cathedral, the route will lead through the historic streets of Sitges to the medieval town centre. Here, Maricel Palace and Museum, examples of Modernism, are known for their collections. Directly opposite, the Cau Ferrat Museum is the home of Santiago Rusiñol, one of the pioneers of the modernist movement in Katalunya. Rusiñol’s decision to begin exhibiting his paintings in Sitges played an important role in making the town known. The walk will pass colourful houses and bars along the narrow streets where the Sitges Festival, featuring horror and fantasy films and attended by thousands of people each year, is celebrated. The tour will then continue to the beach, where the remaining time will be spent. At the end of the tour, guests will be transferred to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
