We booked a family room for 1 night. We were passing by in the way to see the mountains and return to UK. The first experience was a bit strange. We had a feeling of 👻 hotel. THEN! Check in easy! Lifts easy access to the room. The room left us very impressed. A very comfortable double bed and a bunk bed. The bunk bed is the strongest bunk bed we have ever seen. Easily could sleep 2 overweight adults. All the furniture shows care for valuable old/antiques. When people say outdated we saw a (clean, strong, beautiful, quality.....) dresser that it could never be replaced. That furniture it will only grow in value over time. Thank you for making a short stop a wonderful surprise!

I booked our UK half-term holiday accommodation here in December, then became nervous as so many one-star reviews appeared. I understand that the hotel is a bit aged and run down, but it was perfect for us and we were actually very impressed. Our experience: 1. We really liked the relaxed lobby area with old leather couches. We were able to eat take-away pizza and supermarket wine here and the kids read and played cards. It had a relaxed old youth hostel vibe. 2. The pool, sauna, steam room were all lovely and plenty of free towels. 3. Our room was warm, clean, and everything worked fine. 4. There weren't as many staff as in a five star hotel, but there was generally someone around and they were always friendly and responsive. 5. The breakfast was amazing, a huge range of food, and the breakfast room is an ornate ballroom overlooking the mountains. 6. The cafe in the ground floor sold excellent cakes and the proprietor was very friendly. I think if you manage your expectations and understand that one or two things may be broken or slightly messy, you will enjoy this place. Our kids (aged 5 and 11) are adamant that this is the best hotel they've ever stayed at.

Pros: Great location right in the city center, perfect for people who enjoy the atmosphere and style of “old times.” Neutral: The breakfast is not bad, but the selection is quite limited and the dishes don’t change. If you stay for several days, you’ll basically be eating the same thing every morning. Cons: There is no permanent staff at the reception, which makes communication difficult when you need help. Our room was too small and poorly equipped for two people (I strongly advise against booking room 508 with the green walls for two guests). The room itself is not well maintained. As a guest, I don’t expect luxury, but basic things should work: the toilet shouldn’t be broken, the window should close properly, the bed shouldn’t feel like it’s falling apart, and the bathtub should at least have a plug so it can actually be used. Overall, it feels like there has been little investment and very little attention to maintaining a proper standard. Summary: Overall, it feels more like a hostel with some hotel-like amenities rather than a proper hotel.
