The rooms were clean but could do with upgrading. The bathroom was more up to date but the wash hand basin was too small and kept overflowing even washing your hands. There weren’t enough sockets and no usb connectors. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was about a 15 to 20 minute walk to the town centre.

The most exceptional stay! The manager (Gerty) is so kind, sincere and helpful. The staff are the same. Friendly, efficient, kind and helpful. The rooms are amazing. So spacious. Most have two floors and it makes a wonderful setting when wanting to lounge and relax. The facilities are remarkable. The location is perfect. Protea Hotel Dorpshuis, being on Dorp Street, is right near Stellenbosch Town Center. One can walk into town easily. Perfect place and great value for money!
Stuck in a little back room next to the kitchen, that smelled of bacon, was not what I expected. This hotel has significant traffic noise and many of the rooms are old and dated. Be careful which room you select as there is huge variation in the quality. Overall, compared to the …

Stuck in a little back room next to the kitchen, that smelled of bacon, was not what I expected. This hotel has significant traffic noise and many of the rooms are old and dated. Be careful which room you select as there is huge variation in the quality. Overall, compared to the other hotels in which I stayed across SA this was not a good experience. And…hotels please stop allocating solo travellers the worst rooms - we pay the same $ as a couple for a room. What’s with that?
