Heidelberg Marriott Hotel

The pros: The staff was very nice Dinner was good The breakfast buffet was great too. The outdoor area of the Grill16 by the river is a nice place to chill and have a drink or meal. The cons: 1- The air conditioning is terrible at this hotel. Literally no air whatsoever coming out of the vent, certainly not any cool air. Absolute misery to be in the room during the day and trust that your sleep will suffer. They moved the “concierge lounge” to a conference room on the ground floor because the regular room was “too hot”. Coolest area of the hotel was the lobby / front desk area, yet it’s a sign the AC sucks when the front desk staff had a fan blowing non-stop to keep them cool. (Photo of that) 2- the rooms are very dated and really need Marriott to invest to fully renovate. I could deal with the room quality if the AC worked. They weren’t disgusting in any way, they’re just VERY dated, especially the bathroom Bottom line; if you’re from a country where you are used to modern AC to cool your room, this hotel is a risky proposition during the summer. If you don’t mind your oom being 30+C (85F+) then you’ll be fine. I opted to cut my stay short and head down the street to a different hotel where people raved about the AC on reviews, as I value a cool room more than anything in a hotel (during the summer).

The only reason this property is not receiving a 15 star review for customer service is because Google doesn't have the option. The staff went above and beyond for us. At check in, a very friendly and very helpful woman helped us to check into our rooms ahead of 3pm, allowing us to accomplish our goals earlier and quicker than expected. Upon returning to the hotel, we had a wonderful time in the gym, pool and sauna. All of these areas were kept very clean, well stocked and with nice equipment. Our dinner at the hotel restaurant was quite nice, with an exceptional server who made suggestions and accommodations to meet our needs. In the morning we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast complete with fresh omelettes, great bread options, tea, coffee, fresh fruit, granola made in house and much, much more. We had requested a late check out, but the weather was bad so we chose to drive home early. When we left, a jacket stayed behind in the closet. As soon as we realized, we called the front desk and notified them of our error. Erick J emailed me back within an hour that not only had they found the jacket, they would either hold it for us or could mail it back. 30 minutes later we had coordinated to have our item shipped to us, and shortly thereafter we had the Tracking Number. The jacket arrived to us, with all the items still in the pockets INCLUDING the cash. To say we were beyond thankful is an understatement. Erick, Anna-Lena, the front desk crew, and restaurant staff were helpful and friendly at every step of our stay. This is a great property with a team that makes it exceptional. We look forward to recommending the hotel and returning for another stay.

This hotel was built in 1987 and has changed very little since. I am not exaggerating. It is a time capsule. I spend >850 nights in Marriott properties around the globe and can confidently state that this is the most run down Marriott branded hotel I have encountered. Everything from the carpet, curtains, furniture, tile, wallpaper is original. We were here during the intense heat wave of 2026 and the air conditioning did not keep up. We had to change rooms due to one being a full blown sauna. While the wait staff in the restaurant and pub were very friendly, several of the front desk and service staff were was equal parts rude and partially competent throughout navigating the range of experiences involved with the room >90 Fahrenheit, de-programming all keys for multiple rooms (fun surprise ant the end of the day), failing to fix reported broken fixtures in the room including a shower head and ineffectively handling room transfer. This property calls into question how Marriott manages and enforces brand standards. The breakfast at the restaurant downstairs, in house pub and food were always on point, exceeding expectations and helped take the edge off of the worn out property conditions and inconsistent service. Enjoy at your own risk. Photos attached are from an executive suite that they have the audacity to charge $500 Euros per night for. Zero USB plugs, no 115 AC connections. The living area was way to hot to even spend time in.
