Dorint Hotel am Heumarkt Köln

Very nice and comfortable business hotel. Stayed in the suite so had a very spacious room with incredible views. Suite needs refurbishment however. Couches are stained and some fixtures have become dated. I can only imagine that they have a refurb planned for the near future. Common areas are in a good state however but need a special touch. Ground floor lacks a cohesive flow. Staff was average.

We always choose this hotel whenever we visit Cologne, which probably says more than anything else — it’s become our regular spot for good reason. The staff are consistently friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful, the rooms are always clean and a great size, the breakfast is excellent, and the location is hard to fault. That said, this stay had a couple of hiccups. We were travelling with a baby and needed to keep milk refrigerated. Unfortunately, the fridge in our room wasn’t working. The staff were very accommodating and kindly offered to store it in their fridge, which we really appreciated. The only slight issue was that when we requested it later, it took over an hour to arrive. Under normal circumstances this would be mildly inconvenient — with a screaming baby, however, it feels closer to an endurance event. To their credit, they did have someone come and replace the mini fridge the following day, which was dealt with quickly and appreciated. The air conditioning also seems to have a long-standing philosophical objection to actually conditioning air. With windows that don’t open, the room became warmer than ideal. And while the parking is convenient, €36 per night does make your car feel like it’s checking into a luxury suite of its own. Overall though, this is still a hotel we return to every time we’re in Cologne because the positives outweigh the negatives. A few practical improvements would make an already very good stay even better.

Our stay at this hotel was overall average. On the positive side, the room was spacious and comfortable, which we really appreciated. The check-in process was smooth and easy, and the elevator was fast and efficient. The large window with a city view was a nice highlight. The location was also convenient, about a 10-minute walk to the Bahnhof. We also liked that the room had both a separate bathtub and shower, as well as a fridge and an electric kettle. However, there were some notable downsides. The mattress was old and overly soft, to the point where we could hear the springs, which made it uncomfortable to sleep. The pillows were very thin and flat, and honestly didn’t make much difference whether we used them or not. Additionally, some of the towels had stains, which was not very pleasant from a hygiene perspective. Overall, the hotel has good potential, but improvements in bedding quality and cleanliness would make a big difference
