Anantara Chiang Mai Resort

I hope this bad experience review serves as a useful reference for travelers considering spending between USD 400 and over USD 1,000 per night at this property. Based on my personal experience, I paid nearly USD 400 for a night’s stay at Anantara Chiang Mai Resort, only to discover a layer of dust so thick that it could have been used as an ice cream topping. To be honest, I genuinely struggle to understand how this hotel has earned its star rating. What shocked me even more was that the hotel follows a 3:00 PM check-in policy. I checked in on time, left the hotel for my evening activities, and returned later that night. After taking a shower, I was about to go to bed when I suddenly felt as if I couldn’t breathe properly. I looked down and was stunned to find the room covered with thick dust. For a hotel that is widely regarded as one of the finest luxury hotels in Thailand, this level of cleanliness is simply unacceptable. The hotel manager’s solution was merely to offer me another room or send housekeeping to clean the existing one. With all due respect, I did not book a luxury hotel expecting a “special surprise” of moving rooms close to midnight or watching housekeeping clean my room while I was supposed to be resting. I came here expecting a premium luxury experience—not to spend my night dealing with problems that should have been prevented before I ever stepped into the room. I am deeply disappointed by the condition of the room and the housekeeping standards at Anantara Chiang Mai Resort. At this price point, basic cleanliness should never be something guests have to question.

★★★★★ We stayed at Anantara Chiang Mai for over 7 days, and the entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. The Lanna Pool Suite was definitely the icing on the cake, beautiful, private and incredibly relaxing. Having the floating breakfast served in our own pool made the experience even more special. The gym was excellent and had everything needed for a proper workout, while the in-room dining service was consistently quick and well executed. Food and drinks were another highlight. Bodhi Terrace was amazing, and the service at The Service 1921 Restaurant & Bar was brilliant throughout our stay. The Brit Bar was also absolutely on point, especially the Cosmopolitans and Gin & Tonics. Getting some hands-on experience learning how to make cocktails with the team was a particularly memorable touch. What really stood out, though, was the consistency of the team across the entire property. After staying for more than a week, you really get to see whether a hotel can maintain its standards day after day and Anantara Chiang Mai certainly did. Kudos to the entire team for making the stay so memorable. Brilliant property, excellent hospitality and an experience we would happily come back for. A very well-deserved 5 stars.

A fantastic luxury hotel in Chiang Mai, located next to the river. A short walk gets you to the nearby night markets or a short taxi ride to get to the inner city. The river view suite was large, spacious and comfortable, with ample room for luggage and storage as well as a large rain shower and bath. The breakfast buffet was large and varied, with both Thai and western items available and changed day to day. You are definitely paying a premium compared to other places, in terms of room, food and spa prices but the quality justifies it quite well.
