ANA Crowne Plaza Fukuoka

The hotel and rooms are old and looking a bit tired and worn out. Crowne Plaza globally are not exactly known to be the most modern or chic hotels (with a few rare new locations such as LHR). The Hakata location is no exception… The redeeming feature was the excellent breakfast buffet, the selection was superb. The staff are also great. I guess I am not as disappointed as other reviewers as I only stayed one night here and booked a very cheap room rate well in advance. The normal/peak season per night rates for this hotel are insane, considering how run down the place is. If you get a bargain then by all means stay here.

This hotel is very close to Hakata Station and is surrounded by restaurants, coffee places, and convenience stores. All good for tourists. It is also about a 10- or 15-minute taxi ride to/from the airport, which worked well for us. You can hear the city around you, so if you are a light sleeper like myself, higher floors are probably best. A/C in the room works good, and in our room, at least, they had a mini-refrigerator that was very helpful. The rooms are a bit dated, but everything in the room seemed clean and it was fine for the nights we were there. In the lobby, if you look around a bit, you can see some stuff that could be cleaned more thoroughly, but so it goes, not a hill that I'm willing to die on. The staff was very good and helpful, a strong point for this property. We greatly appreciated them. There is a decent-sized Lawson convenience store right next door to the hotel. Great if you are looking for a comfortable place to crash that is close to stuff and not going to break your travel budget.

The check in experience was great and the front of house staff put a lot of effort into making the arrival experience pleasant. Unfortunately, the rooms look clean but don’t smell and feel clean. When I arrived onto my floor and into my room, there seemed to be a lingering odor. After showering, I saw a small cockroach. This place has the potential to be a great hotel because of the hospitality of their front of house staff. It just needs a dire deep clean, which includes heavy pest control and ceiling to floor scrubbing.
