A night train on the Trans-Siberian line, in a sleeper compartment, rolls through the long open land beyond the cities. Taiga forest, small stations and rivers pass slowly at the window, and tea and conversation soften the hours inside. Siberia's scale makes most sense from a train window.
Compartments can be shared and space is tight, so light luggage and comfortable clothing help. Earplugs and a thin blanket are worth considering.
