Khustai National Park is a steppe reserve where Takhi horses, once lost from the wild, have been reintroduced. With a guide you climb the hills and scan for herds through binoculars. Seeing wild horses graze in their natural setting is the reward of a quiet wait.
Do not approach the animals, stay quiet and follow the guide's directions. Bring binoculars, a hat, water and a windproof jacket. Seeing the herds is not guaranteed, so patience pays. Observation is made in spring, summer and autumn, and early morning is usually livelier.
