Puffing Billy steam train ride through the Dandenong Ranges
Melbourne · Australia
About this experience
In the Dandenong Ranges, east of Melbourne, a small steam train passes slopes covered in ferns and tall trees. The train is slow, the carriage sides are open, and clouds of steam from the funnel give the ride a nostalgic air. The cool smell of the rainforest drifts in through the window.
Sunglasses help against wind and the odd cinder, and a thin jacket is wise. The forest smell is stronger on a damp day. Children enjoy the open sides, but follow the safety rules.
