On the open plains of Amboseli, elephants walk with the outline of Kilimanjaro behind them. They graze in family groups and rest at muddy waterholes. In the morning light the summit sometimes clears the cloud, and from the safari vehicle you can catch both in a single frame.
The summit of Kilimanjaro often clears in the early morning and may hide again towards noon. Bring a light bandana against dust, a clean cloth for your camera and a sun hat. Staying quiet keeps the elephants at ease, so avoid sudden movements in the vehicle.
