MBD Travel Riquewihr Guide
More than a list of sights: a practical guide to planning the order of your trip, choosing where to stay and adapting the plan to the season.
Riquewihr Guide 2026
Riquewihr is a small walled village in eastern France, on the Alsace wine route. Its colourful half-timbered houses and the vineyards around it make it one of the best-known villages in Alsace.
What to see in Riquewihr
- The main street (Rue du Général de Gaulle): a lane of half-timbered houses running the length of the village.
- The Dolder Tower: the old gate and watchtower of the village.
- Winegrowers' houses and cellars: the region is known for Riesling and Gewürztraminer grapes.
- Nearby villages: MBD programmes pair it with Colmar and other Alsace villages.
When to go
July and August average a high of 26 degrees, and July is the wettest month with 116 millimetres. January ranges between 6 and 0 degrees. Late November and December is the village's Christmas market season, and the Christmas market tours stop here.
Getting there from Turkey
In MBD's Dream Triangle tours of Germany, France and Switzerland, Riquewihr is visited on the "Alsace villages and Colmar" day, and the Christmas market tours call the same region the "fairy-tale villages of Alsace" day. Tours leave from Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya and run 3 to 4 nights. It also appears in Benelux and France tours. Dates and prices are on the tour page.
Who it suits
Visitors who like small villages, wine culture and photography, as well as couples and families. If you want big museums or shopping centres, it will feel small. The village takes half a day.
